  • The Last Cruise…?

THE LAST CRUISE reunites Wes Hardin and Tully Cain (see Fancy’s Way and The XO), now members of VFA-142, the Ghostriders, as they take the Navy’s newest fighter, the F-35 Lightning, on its initial deployment, on board the nuclear aircraft carrier, Abraham Lincoln, CVN-72. The cruise gets off to a surprise beginning when the Lincoln Strike Group is tasked to the Caribbean after the shoot down of an American Airlines plane. Future encounters take place in the skies over the Gulf of Aden and the Black Sea before the carrier arrives in the Arabian Sea and commences operations in the turbulent skies over Afghanistan – which presents its own unique set of challenges. The action continues non-abated almost until the Lincoln and her consorts return to their home port of Norfolk, Virginia.

This story is unusual but true – as told by those who lived overlapping lives with those who were eyewitnesses. The story is about the lives of four generations of ancestors beginning in old Europe and then coming to America in the 1800’s with a wave of other immigrants. They moved westward, lured by the promise of homesteads. They became the last of the pioneers as they reached the wilderness frontiers of Canada and the far West. They were held back by the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression but escaped to something better in California.

  • The Law of Kindness: God’s Key to the Locked Heart

For the Christian, no magic wand exists to soul winning, i.e. win the lost to Christ. God has given us foundational principles such as using the law, wisdom, prayer, etc., to guide us in our efforts to individually and corporately obey the mandate of the Great Commission. However, the foundation for all our efforts must be God’s nature of kindness. Without a strong foundation building cannot either be erected nor long remain erect, so too, without God’s nature of kindness, no amount of effort, no matter how sincere will be effective in drawing the lost to the cross of Christ. The goodness of God, i.e. the kindness of God is not simply a nice sounding cliché but the very key to unlocking the unbeliever’s heart!

It was the end of one war and the beginning of another. World War II was over and the new war, the ‘Cold War’, had begun. It was thus called because it would not be fought with bullets and bombs, but with propaganda and intelligence, a.k.a. spying. The adversaries were groups like the KGB, CIA and MI6. The largest of these groups, the KGB, hatched a plan to install a ‘mole’ in its No. 1 enemy, the USA. To effect the plan it would require ‘replacing’ a citizen with a known background.
