  • Four Princesses from Provence

During the Middle Ages noble women were often pawns in the great game of dynastic politics. But some of them were important players in their own right. The four daughters of the Count of Provence used their charms, beauty, and intelligence to move from their father’s small kingdom in the south of France to positions of power across Europe. Marguerite, Eleanor, and Sancha became queens of France, England, and the Kingdom of Sicily. They followed their husbands to new homes where they gave their new lands children and a family life. But the fourth daughter, Beatrice, was different. The man she loved was a political enemy; the man she married was an indifferent and self-absorbed prince who made it clear that political intrigue was more important to him than the love of a gentle and romantic girl from another country. The only happy moments Beatrice enjoyed were spent in secrecy with her lover. But the stakes of her emotional attachment were high and the dangers of a misstep were always great. Based on research into the history of Europe in the thirteenth century and on travel to all of the destinations where these princesses lived, this novel depicts a crucial period as Europe emerged from the slumber of the Dark Ages and began to awake slowly to the promise of modern life.

  • Fragmented Blues

Fragmented Blues comes to be more than 12 years after its conception. A collection of blues, war, travel, and love poems written to organize, describe, and even jive through rural realities and communities rich with history of southern literature. Influenced by iconic writers: Richard Wright, Etheridge Knight, Faulkner, Welty, Jerry Ward, Jr., and Margaret Walker, the book echoes traditional voices. Fragmented Blues was written in migration through the Deep South, Chicago, Southern Italy, onward to the Arabian Gulf in war time where the fantail of a U.S. vessel and a swaying darkened sea tide became the backdrop dredging lines displaying the faith and substance of life.

Fragmented Blues, Marcus’ second volume of verse is a fitting follow up to his first book. It contains 61 skillfully crafted poems that give the reader a sense of a young Black male from Mississippi discovering his place within the context of a complex and evolving global community. With “Fragmented Blues,” the title poem, Marcus brings his blues to commune with the future but he is ever mindful of the past.

    -Charlie R. Braxton, Hip-Hop Journalist/Poet

White’s goal is not just to draw pictures of pain, but to pull back the pain and show that hope or possibility still exists. Yet, White does not appear as an idealist, but more of a romantic- a man who loves, is compelled to love, even if his love is not returned. And that is the hope that is seen and felt in his poetry- a hope that someone will read his work and realize that possibility of love.

  • FREDDY Continues His Long Journey Home

This story is the sequel to Freddy’s long and dangerous journey home. During his odyssey, Freddy, the fun-loving sea otter, will meet a variety of creatures that will be charmed by his friendly and modest nature. Their endearing friendships are mutually respected and enjoyed.
As with my stories, my primary purpose is to always include the following: family values, life-learning lessons and joyful endings. In short, my stories are uplifting and a joy to read.
Freddy is a wholesome role model with qualities of honesty, integrity, caring and humility. He knows how to be a true friend.
But like all living creatures in this world, Freddy has his lessons to learn. For one, he forgets that there is a fine line between boldness and recklessness. And each time he crosses that line, he finds himself in death-threatening encounters.
On his courageous journey, Freddy will need to find a way to escape the deadly grips of an enraged octopus, a beautiful but devious mermaid, the great white shark and Man-Humans.
Freddy is a delightful story that will bring joy and smiles for the entire family. The story reveals how to live the good life, and for those who can read between the lines, will receive a double treat. Young children, I am told, “love” my stories because they love animals.
Here’s a friendly challenge. Within the story, there are two factors that go beyond the laws of Mother Nature. See if you can find them.

    Enjoy.

  • From Canoe to Computer

In today’s tumultuous world, one of the most controversial sciences is that of wildlife management; the conservation, use and management of populations of wild animals and their habitats. This book summarizes the author’s years of work with beavers, muskrats, black bears, grizzly bears, wolves, skunks, bats and other species in the Canadian north and with the various hunter, trapper and non-consumptive wildlife peoples that interacted with those species. Included are descriptions of long-term research projects, public education programs, studies of wildlife disease, and historical management programs. The author explains the necessity of involvement of various governmental agencies, public associations, wildlife users, agriculturalists, aboriginal peoples and academia in the successful management of populations of wild animals. The needs to change certain aspects of wildlife management education are presented. The continuation of recreational, subsistence and commercial hunting and trapping is recommended.
