Let Freedom Ring

My dream of freedom and better opportunity for my family came true. America is still the land of opportunity and freedom. I remember when the Philippines was still a commonwealth of the United States, and I was in grade school, we sang ā€œthe Star Spangled Bannerā€ and ā€œMy Country ā€˜Tis of Thee.ā€

We did not come here on the Mayflower, but America has become our adopted country. Let freedom ring!
ā€œMy country, ā€˜tis of thee.
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrimsā€™ pride,
From evā€™ry mountainside
Let freedom ring!ā€

Virgilio I. Gonzales was born in 1932 in the Philippines and grew up during the Japanese occupation in World War II. In 1978 he emigrated to the United Sates and was employed by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., who relocated his family from Manila to Danbury, Connecticut. Let Freedom Ring, his second book, is an affirmation of America as the land of the free and the home of the brave.

From My Heart To Yours: Finding Help in Hard Places

None of us are ever prepared to hear the dreaded words “You have cancer”. When this happens, we are immediately bombarded with emotion. We begin to ask questions and search for answers.

Because of all the emotional stress, fear and anxiety that accompany cancer or any other life threatening disease, we are unable to see clearly. Our focus is clouded by the pain and sorrow we and our loved ones are experiencing. In From My Heart to Yours, author Sharon DePriest shares the overwhelming emotion and pain she and her husband encountered after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010. She felt the heavy responsibility of caregiving and began a search for wisdom to face the coming days. In her search, she was directed to the word of God, and in doing so, she encountered Jesus. In that encounter, she began to find the answers to the questions that troubled her. From My Heart to Yours not only deals with the stress of cancer that is placed on a family, it deals with other “hard places” we find ourselves in. You may be in a place of fear, loneliness or rejection and feel that you are unloved. The Word of God has the answers you are looking for. There is hope and encouragement no matter what circumstance comes our way. Sharon wrote this book so that you might experience the same help and comfort she received.

Sharon DePriest is a native Alabamian. Presently she resides in Malvern, Alabama, a small town in South Alabama. She stays busy serving her church family as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and bible study leader.

People of God ā€“ One and All Saints and Sinners

Her poetry is inspired by the Holy Spirit, many times with an instructional focus. She received and discovered this gift to write poetry in her latter years of teaching. In her newly revised book People of God ā€“ One and All: Saints and Sinners, different aspects of being a saint and a sinner are explored. Questions are asked, thoughts are provoked, and concepts are delved into in comprehending the reality of being both a saint and a sinner. In People of God-One and All: Come and Beā€¦, Part 1 she explores the concepts of grace, relationships, and sacred struggles. In Part 2 she explores this through the wonder of God, the production of fruits evolving through faith, and how to be bold in faith. Both books explore and ponder upon the ideas of faith, relationships with God and each other, and what is expected in carrying out oneā€™s faith. In all the books, scripture passages for further study and references are provided with most of the poems to further question and reflect on oneā€™s faith and how to mature oneself in the faith realm and share it with others.
In retirement, she quilts with many being sewn for philanthropy projects locally and around the world. Additionally, she reads, does genealogy, and actively participates in church activities.
